Tracking Your Operations Like a Hawk

Converting Applications of BellHawk

A substantial number of users of BellHawk are material converters. They use BellHawk because many of the products they make are used in, or as packaging materials for, products that impact human safety. As a result they need to collect tracking and traceability data and to prevent employee mistakes. BellHawk is especially suited to use by converters as it can support multiple units of measure and it can be customized to their specific (often unique) business needs.

Some examples of the uses of BellHawk are in tracking:

Reels of Wire
  1. Slitting rolls of plastic into tapes
  2. Coating and sheeting rolls of paper and plastic
  3. Laminating and punching plastic sheets
  4. Converting gold bullion into fine jewelry
  5. Slabbing granite rocks into building blocks
  6. Wire and cable manufacturing

In each case there are multiple units of measure involved. As one roll–converter stated "I buy in pound, convert by the foot and sell by the sheet". This is typical in many converting applications. Also the business operations tend to be very specialized and integration with weighing scales or other devices is required.

BellHawk supports multiple units of measure and knows how to translate between them. It can weigh a roll of paper and compute the length of the material on the roll. It can weigh items and determine the count. It can also compute the weight of pallets based on the quantity of items on the pallet.

BellHawk is also able to track materials left over from manufacturing operations. It is able to track butt rolls and left–over chemicals so they can be reused.

BellHawk is especially suited to those applications where:

  1. Manufacturing and distribution is done in multiple units of measure with automated conversion required during receiving, production and shipping.
  2. Inventory and WIP cost data has to be fed back to an ERP or financial system that does not know about multiple units of measure.
  3. Data has to be collected in a physically demanding environment, often with a lot of electrical interference from heavy machinery.
  4. Integration with weighing scales is required.
  5. Business processes require a customized approach to data collection.

For converters all the production, inventory and tracking and traceability benefits of BellHawk apply and are also a major factor in the purchase of a BellHawk system.
